CBT Training – Learn to Ride with Confidence

CBT training that builds real confidence — not just a certificate.

At Edventure Rider, we focus on helping you become a safe, capable rider from day one. With small groups, professional instructors, and more time on the bike, you’ll leave feeling ready for the road — not rushed through the process.

What is CBT?

CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) is a structured training course set by the DVSA, designed to ensure you can ride safely on the road.

The course is divided into 5 elements (A–E), and you must complete each element safely before progressing to the next.

  • The training is not time-based
  • It is based on your ability and safety

Most riders complete all elements in one day. However, if you need more time to reach a safe standard, additional training may be required before continuing.

Our approach is simple:
we only progress you when you are ready — so you leave confident, not just completed.

Why Choose Edventure Rider?

Choosing the right training school makes a huge difference to your experience and confidence.

With us, you get:

  • More time on the bike, less waiting
  • Minimum of 2 hours road riding
  • Small group training (max 4 riders per instructor)
  • Advanced qualified instructors
  • Calm, supportive coaching environment
  • Modern motorcycles and Bluetooth communication

We don’t rush riders through CBT — we train you properly so you’re ready for real-world riding.

Nervous About CBT?

That’s completely normal.

Most of our riders have never ridden before, and many feel nervous at the start. Our instructors specialise in building confidence step by step, at your pace.

  • No pressure
  • No rushing
  • Clear guidance throughout

👉 You’ll be supported from start to finish.

What If I Don’t Complete CBT in One Day?

Not everyone completes CBT in one day — and that’s completely normal.

If you’re not ready to progress safely to the next element, we’ll explain exactly what you need to improve and guide you on the next steps.

This isn’t about failing — it’s about making sure you are safe and confident before moving forward.

Who needs to take training ?

Compulsory basic training (CBT) is a course you usually have to take before you ride a moped or motorcycle on the road.
The training makes sure you can ride safely on your own while you practise for your full moped or motorcycle test.
CBT isn’t a test that you pass orfail.
After you’ve completed CBT, you can ride a:
moped if you’re 16 or over
motorcycle up to 125cc and with a power output of up to 11kW if you’re 17 or over
You must use L plates (L or D plates in Wales).
You must pass your full moped or motorcycle test within 2 years, or you have to either take CBT again or stop riding.
You can be fined up to £1,000 and get up to 6 penalty points for riding if you don’t have a valid CBT certificate.

We will check your Uk driving license. You can provide your provisional or full UK driving license. If you have an EU license it will need to be accompanied by a UK counterpart using the D9 form at the post office or you can exchange your EU license for the UK one. If you can’t see the number plate from 20 meters away, you will need to have your eyesight corrected before you can attend the CBT again. If you have a code in your license 01 and can read the number plate using the glasses you will need to wear the glasses for the duration of the course and you will be able to complete the course.

Introduction

How the syllabus works, what trainers should be able to show, the learning outcomes and assessment of skills. We will make sure to find out what is your experience to be able to better help you to achieve your objective for the day. We will explain what will happen on the day, with all the important safety briefs.

Element A Introduction

The aims of CBT, making suitable decisions about equipment/clothing and meeting the eyesight rules if we didn’t check already. This is where we introduce the CBT and talk about helmets and suitable clothing. Join in so we can help you make the right decision about your protective clothing and legal requirements.

Element B Practical On-Site Training

You will learn how the motorcycle or moped works, what maintenance checks are needed, and getting a feel for the weight and balance of the vehicle.

Element C Practical On-Site Riding

Carrying out manoeuvres safely and under full control, using the brakes, changing gear, and carrying out observations.

Element D Practical On-Road Training Preparation

Meeting the legal requirements to ride, attitude, positioning, separation distances, speed, anticipating what other road users may do, and preparing for developing hazards.

Element E Practical On-Road Riding

Riding in typical traffic conditions (including traffic lights, roundabouts, junctions, pedestrian crossings, gradients and bends), and carrying out a U-turn and an emergency stop. Comfort breaks can also be taken during the element, making sure that the time on the road is at least 2 hours.
