The feeling of freedom you get when out on two wheels isn’t limited to an age group. Whether you’re in your youth or a silver fox, you might have always wanted to experience the rush of motorcycling.
So, don’t let age get in your way if it doesn’t have to. If you really want to learn how to ride a motorbike and pass your
CBT in Chingford, what exactly is stopping you?
You can take your CBT course whenever you are ready, but there are a
few restrictions when it comes to actually getting on the bike.
You can only ride a moped if you are over the age of 16, even if you have completed your CBT.
After your 17th birthday, however, you can hope on a motorbike up to 125cc and with an output of 11kW.
Within two years of doing your CBT, you need to pass your moped or motorcycle test. If you don’t, you have to complete the CBT again.
Without a valid CBT certificate, you could be fined up to £2,000 and face six penalty points.
But what about the other end of the scale? Is there an age restriction on learning to ride if you are heading into your twilight years?
Technically, you are never too old to start motorcycling, and the more hesitant you are about getting on the bike, the older you will be when you experience your first ride.
However, you do need to have a full or provisional UK driving licence, and your eyesight needs to be up to scratch. You will be tested to see whether you can read a number plate from 20m away, which could be challenging to some older folk.
If you have excellent vision (or wear visual aids), good reflexes and a great sense of adventure, you should become a pro on the bike in no time.
