London is never an easy city to travel around by road at the best of times. The roads are busy and frequently congested, while the sheer size of the capital is a challenge for anyone travelling from A to B.
For that reason, many people avoid the road and rely on the capital’s extensive public transport system. This can be seen by the fact that London’s inner boroughs have consistently had the lowest car ownership levels in England.
With the (belated) addition of the Elizabeth Line this year and an extension to the Northern line to serve the Nine Elms development on the south bank opening last year, this continues to expand.
However, this is not a panacea. It is not just the fact that there are often delays and closures for engineering works across the vast network, but there have also been numerous strikes this year, particularly on the railways. November will see more.
This provides a particularly good reason to take motorbike lessons in London. Bikes takes up less space and are thus able to weave in and out of busy traffic, which will be even more congested on days when the railways are out of action.
In addition, a great advantage of motorbikes is they take up less room outside a home too, making them ideal for homes in densely populated areas where any kind of space is at a premium.
Of course, the challenge of riding on London roads is a significant one. There won’t be a lot of locations with open road where you can travel fast and many places where dealing with heavy traffic, cars buses, cyclists and crowds of people trying to cross the street.
That is why you need expert tuition to learn not just the basic rules of the road, but how to deal with the very specific needs of motorcycling in the busy capital.
